The novel is set in 1997 and follows Jack Reacher, an ex-military policeman whose time in the service taught him the ins and outs of dealing with criminals and violence. After being honorably discharged from the military, Reacher is traveling the country and finds himself in the small town of Margrave, Georgia. There, Reacher quickly finds himself in a dangerous situation, as the town is home to a mysterious conspiracy, and a string of mysterious murders.The story is fast-paced and gripping, and as Reacher delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, his investigative skills are tested to the limit. Reacher is forced to draw on all of his training and experience to uncover the truth and bring peace to Margrave. Along the way, he must contend with several different enemies, all of whom are determined to keep their secrets hidden. In the end, Reacher learns some unpleasant truths about those involved in the conspiracy, himself included, which leads to some shocking revelations.Killing Floor is an entertaining thriller book and a perfect introduction to the Jack Reacher series. Lee Child's writing style is engaging, believable and captures the atmosphere of the small-town setting perfectly. It also paints a vivid picture of post-war life in the United States. With a cast of realistically drawn characters and plenty of suspense, this book is a must-read for fans of the thriller genre.
