Christopher Andrew is a historian, full professor at Cambridge University, and one of the world's leading intelligence and security experts. He has authored and co-authored over 16 books and is the official historian of MI5. He is also the Intelligence and International Security advisor for the Cabinet Office, a Chief of Staff for the Consortium for the Study of Intelligence in London, and an adviser to several international organizations, with an interest in the role of secret service and intelligence agencies in international affairs. Andrew is an acclaimed author and has garnered a great deal of respect in his field. In his books, lectures and interviews, Andrew seeks to uncover and analyse the secret workings of intelligence and security agencies, while illuminating the public with a historical and ethical context, in order to better inform modern debates. Many of his works lean heavily on his expertise; ‘Defence of the Realm’ (2010) is a monumental single-volume history of MI5, while ‘The Defence of the Realm: The Authorised History of MI5’ (2011) earned acclaim for its insight into the world of spycraft. Andrew is sought out by influential and media personalities for opinion and discourse on the subject of intelligence and security. For many years, he has consistently published scholarly articles and journals like ‘Political Studies’, ‘International Affairs’, and ‘The Oxford History of Greece and Rome’. His expertise is sought in television and radio programmes, exploring issues on MI5 and the CIA. In 2016 his “profound and pioneering contribution to the historiography of intelligence and security” was internationally recognised when he was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
